I Matter Foundation 6 Week Intensive

A Framework for working with stressed children with addtional challenges 


The I Matter framework offers a way of thinking that you can apply to helping children with a wide variety of challenges
Join us for an intensive Foundation course with other parents who are caring for children with additional challenges
You will gain
  • An introduction to the I Matter Framework.  Opportunities to think about applications in your own family andd your focus child
  • Discussion of up to date theory about stress, child development, brain development and the adult role, with a focus on everyday applications
  • Guidance on using these practices at work, in your family and with your focus child
  • Opportunities to share your own experience.
  • This course offers 20 CPD hours through the CPD standards office 


class format:

  • Small-group mentoring via a weekly conference call of 90mins.
  • A portion of each mentoring session devoted to your specific questions and experience.
  • An online course with materials for on-going discussion and sharing of ideas.
  • All participants also receive a set of course notes
  • You will work through the online theory and questions and have opportutnies to discuss your learning and insights with an experienced group of parents-carers
  • Total weekly time commitment of 4-6 hours per week.


A special element of this course is the opportunity to take part in a group with experienced parents who are caring for children with addititional neds to the material from a variety of different perspectives.

    Who is this course designed for? This course is designed for parents-carers of chidlren with additional challenges

    What is the I Matter approach all about? How is it different from other approaches?

    Then intention of I Matter Training is to take you through a wide number of wellevidenced theoretical ideas presented in a careful structure in order to provide you with a very clear foundation to inform your decision making with complex children and other family members

    How will I be able to use I Matter with my child and family? The I Matter approach is accessible, practical but also very profond.. The approach engages curiosity and can provide immediate relief to overwhelmed parents as well as long-term transformation, depending on what people are ready for and open to. This framework will complement other training and will asisst you in making sense of many other varied approaches.  I Matter is a non-judgmental, respectful, and strength-based approach which will strengthen you as well as your children in your own important roles.  

    Are there any prerequisites for taking this course? No. Parents-carers join this class with a wide range of skills and previous experience.  There is opportunity to revisit some very important foundations of practice and then test the ideas out in everyday practical situations means that every class deepens insight and understanding

    What are the requirements for taking this course?  You must be linked to a member school or service and have a work or family situation that gives you contact with children and parents and a willingness to make time for the reflective process required.

    What is it like to be in the Parents-carers Intensive class? What kind of experience might I expect? 

    The classes will include a mixture of listenting to others, sharing of personal experience and mentoring in the use of the approach, Participants learn from one another and from their own personal emotional work in the class. We will focus lightly on the relationship of the farmework to the professional training you have had however our focus is everyday learning.

    Do I need any particular experience before I can take this course? No, we do not require  Intensive participants to have any specific experience. However, we do ask that you are having regular contact with children and parents or other adults , as you will be applying these ideas in your practice and sharing your experiences from week to week.

    What happens if I miss a class or class call? We suggest you make every effort to attend all the class calls. Being a part of the group is a big part of the learning process. However, if you miss a call, we will send you the audio recording of the call upon your request

    Will I be able to share I Matter with other family members? If so, how would I go about doing that? The Prarent carer Intensive course will certainly help you add I Matter ideas to your toolbox,.  Then there are a couple of ways in which you can share these skills with others  that you work with:  You could join us in gaining experience in learding a Parent Study Support Group, which is a structured meeting of parents who are working through the online training.

    Will there be opportunities for individual and group consultations after the  Intensive class has completed and as I incorporate the learning into my practice? Individual consultations are always available, and we aim to pair you with a consultant who is also a professional in the field. With sufficient interest, group consultations may be possible as well.
