What this is

This is a short introductory course that helps you understand the basic ideas behind the I Matter approach and the concept of relationship health.

It gives you a clear starting point for thinking differently about stress, wellbeing, and relationships.


Who it is for

This course is for anyone who wants a simple introduction to relationship health, including:

  • parents and carers
  • professionals in education, health, or community roles
  • people supporting children or adults in challenging situations
  • anyone curious about new ways to understand wellbeing

You don’t need any prior knowledge.


What you will learn

You will begin to understand:

  • why relationship health matters for wellbeing
  • how stress and wellbeing show up in everyday life
  • the I Matter Model (a simple way of understanding what is happening)
  • basic ideas from attachment and emotional safety
  • how to notice stress and wellbeing signals in yourself and others

What you will be able to do

By the end of Level 1 you will be able to:

  • recognise basic signs of stress and wellbeing
  • begin using the I Matter Model to reflect on situations
  • take your first steps in a relationship health approach

Certificate information

Certificates are available on completion of this course, with separate certificates for self-help and supported learning.

They recognise that you have engaged with the learning materials and begun exploring ideas about relationship health and the I Matter approach.

All certificates are based on learner self-confirmation of completion and reflection, and are not clinical, therapeutic, or professional qualifications.

We encourage participants to refresh their learning every two years, as roles, relationships, and family needs naturally change over time.
