I Matter Online Training Steps
The professional role in health, education, police and community services is becoming more and more challenging. Investing in you and in your skills and understanding is not an indulgence. It is an essential part of confidence and your ability to do your job well in relationships with children and adults at work and in relationships at home.
I Matter Core Training is carefully structured to offer you an introduction to the Theory and Theory to Practice of a Relationship Health Approach to Child and Adult Wellbeing progressed through online I Matter study, and reflective questions.
At the beginning, all participants start with one focus relationship which is challenging. We encourage professionals to also start with a personal relationship, usually with a child or significant family member. The key is that you have a motivation for a relationship that feels happier and healthier and that you are willing to put in time for reflection and action. The core programme is about helping you feel clearer and more confident and well-balanced in all high pressure situations. Our more advanced training will help you develop the skills of psychological formulation using the I Matter Framework, and with focus on implementation issues.

I Matter Training has wide applicability. However we are also committed to taking forward high quality practice. For this reason, I Matter resources are protected and in the early stages of training are offered to participants for their own personal development only - ie to support your personal insights in personal and professional roles. This is because though the ideas can look simple, the implementation is subtle, skilled and can be challenging.
We have seen that full competence in an I Matter Approach in challenging situations mostly requires an extended learning process, particularly in organisations or with children with additional needs. Therefore though we love to promote discussion of Relationship Health and of I Matter principles the resources should not be used in professional roles until and unless a professional is appropriately registered as an I Matter Trainee or fully certified, other than to informally show someone that the training is available. In organisations, professionals need informed leadership support to progress this approach.
The first step in helping others as a professional is to become I Matter Informed (Level 1) or an I Matter Organisational Link Professional. This involves small group discussion, online study, and completion of end of level assignments. When you take part in a discussion only training or in online study training only you are known as I Matter Aware. A Link is someone who knows what is involved and can assist access to the learning process and provide encouragement, but is not delivering the training. The early stages of I Matter are therefore not a train the trainer programme.
Our full certification programme takes the form of an extended learning period offered to those we have got to know over an extended period through the core programme. Trainee and Certified practitioners assist us in offering study support groups and 1:1 consultations and coaching.
