I Matter Framework Training - CPD for Professionals in School

Preparing for Healthy Relationships Education with a Whole School Approach

Schools are complicated high pressure places these days where a lot happens that is both wonderful and amazing but sometimes very challenging.

Schools are coping with pressures from all directions -

+ more demanding curriculum and target setting processes,

+ higher numbers of pupils with challenges

+ expectations from all parts of the community that schools have a vital and key role to play.

There is a bit of a change in the wind and schools are starting to hear about trauma informed and ACE aware practices

There is discussion about the mental health of young people and the new Ofsted Framework is focussing on personal development.

Now new guidance is being released on the role of schools in relationships education.

Hooray!   However this new emphasis is requiring some important rethinking.

Schools now have many Teaching Assistants but very little is available for ensuring they are well prepared for their role and we think that this offers an opportunity for some underexplored elements of practice

With this in mind, I Matter Training offers a carefully structured journey for pastoral leads, teachers and teaching assistants through an integrated evidence base around what children - especailly more complex children - need to thrive and why.   This will be content that seems familiar to most professionals and YET - our experience is that professionals who spend every day with children are often taken aback to discover what they didn't know and why healthy relationships are so key to other outcomes.

Our CPD Options support informed practice particularly with regard to practice with complex or struggling children and their families

Starter Level:    Awareness:    An overview of the I Matter Framework

Level 1:             Foundation:    From Confusion to Clarity  - I Matter Informed Practice

Level 2:             Intermediate: Thinking Developmentally - I Matter Developmentally Informed Practice

Level 3-5 is for schools who want to invest in being able to run I Matter training in house for parents and inhouse colleagues and who want to work with us to develop more developmentally sensitive practice as key to reducing stress on young people and staff and on giving young people solid foundations for healthy relationships

So we want to support professionals who know that something key is off track in our schools at present.

Our purpose in encouraging you to take part is that we think this training can help you

+ understand how to better help the pupils you work with - especially the more challenging pupils

+ be better prepared to work effectively with parents

+ be much clearer about your own key role and the priorities

+ help you to enjoy your role better and feel part of a supportive network

For professionals who want to take further steps there are oppportunities to train to become a Lead Professional in order to support parents and professionals in house or to develop the approach as a whole school embedded process.

Developing Your Pastoral Base

Our recommendation to all schools is that they invest in the staffing and training needed to deliver a more competent staff (as regards the social emotional development of children) and a more effective offer for parents and carers or all pupils, and particularly for the complex or challenging child.

Schools often feel that they have enough on their plate.  However the reality is that if you want to improve the long term wellbeing of young people and the communities in which they live, this is an area of practice that has been long neglected.

Indeed there are very specific knowledge, understanding and skills components for staff that have been seriously overlooked.

However with this insight we observe that the fog and the overwhelm starts to lift and the priorities become much clearer.

An unexpected benefit is that many teachers report that this training has a significant positive impact on their own wellbeing.

We are about supporting healthier happier relationships for all children - one relationship at a timd
