Learn the I Matter® Framework

Your first mission (should you choose to accept it) is to be sitting down with a cup of tea and your I Matter Level 1 Certificate,  feeling relieved and proud that you have made time (3 months or less) to give yourself solid foundations for supporting wellbeing and relationship health in professional roles, especially in the face of challenges, and what’s more - you have enjoyed the process!

The Level 1 I Matter programme provides foundations for personal relationship health practice for professionals in a variety of roles with a focus on insight, understanding, self awareness and wellbeing.
The advanced levels of the programme extend learning to meet needs of role:
+ Direct relationships with adults in high pressure situations eg in health, education, community, police
+ Direct roles with children eg in the classroom, in youth work or residential care (Levels 2-3)
+ Indirect roles adults- children eg education, coaching with adults, parents-carers, couples (Levels 2-4-5)
+ Indirect roles with children-adults eg working with supervision staff teams in leadership role (Levels 2-5)

Stats show that relationship health is one of the most important predictors of health and wellbeing for children and adults...

Yet, in spite of decades of research on attachment relationships, professionals are still given very little preparation to ensure we have the skills for relationships, especially for times when there is pressure.  Then when pressures arise (which they always do), it can be difficult to find the right help - this impacts professionals, adults and young people and parents

The truth is, that professional practice with children or adults without preparation for the relationship issues involved, or any discussion can leave you feeling hugely ill-prepared for what comes your way.

Get some preparation for Relationship Health Practice finally done..

With preparation you can experience the relief, the reassurance, and the rewards this brings.

Rewards?  Yes - lack of relationship health understanding in your role and with people who matter in your team can consume your mind, heart and soul - at work and at home.

So making it a priority to develop your understanding and skills can help progress important conversations, help you make good decisions and relieve a lot of pressure

Why Make This a Priority?

tinypeople-trans (1)

We get that you are busy and there is a lot to fit in.  However relationship health impacts everything and as a professional in a high pressure role, you need this knowledge to support your own wellbeing and to help you be more effective

So, making time to learn and making time for discussion will support you as you progress your own I Matter Learning Journey.  As a professional you have a hugely important role to play in this overlooked issue.  Right now, some of this will include important questioning of established practices.  We have seen that it is through discussion that the task of putting theory into practice comes to life.   Here are some other benefits.  You will

MAKE BETTER
DECISIONS

Not understanding why children and adults behave the way they do can lead to huge stress and less effective practices - that can be avoided if you understand more

SAVE
MONEY

If you and your team have to hunt for support once difficulties have become established getting that help can be difficult and sometimes can be very expensive

REDUCE
STRESS

When you have discussed matters to do with relationship health before difficulties arise then if difficulties arise the conversations are much easier to progress.

As a professional and in a leadership role, your wellbeing, insight and skills and your own relationship health is a key foundation for practice in supporting others.

Right now there is also a need to explore the way to respond to cost of living and global challenges with courage and clarity, through building community so that wise decisions can be progressed at all levels.

Relationship Health Matters

I'm Dr Cathy Betoin, founder of I Matter Training and Relationship Health Matters and I get how tricky it can be talking about issues to do with relationship health. It’s often another elephant in the room alongside mental health that everyone avoids talking about, especially with the people you care about

Here with Relationship Heath Matters and I Matter Training, our mission is to make discussion of relationship health as commonplace as discussion about physical health and mental health.

Inspired by my own journey and experiences of confusion in professional and personal roles, I designed this learning journey to help others get their professional and personal roles off to an easier and more start than I experienced

Our aim is to support you in your own wellbeing and in building strong foundations for better joined up relationship health at work and at home

This is done through the the online study course or working with trained and licensed facilitators or coaches who’ve been through our licensed facilitators training programme

With the insight and tools to progress relationship health practice our wish for you is that your own wellbeing, work and home learning journeys will be much easier, simpler, straightforward and enjoyable!

What Others Say

tinypeople-trans (1)

I am really enjoying how thought provoking this information is and how it makes it practical and easy to explain and utilise in so many different areas of my patient care.   GP Level 1

"The information drawn together in I Matter Training is like gold dust for parents and carers of the child who is challenging us.  I am loving the training and finding it so interesting!" - Parent and Foster Carer  Level 1-2

The course was truly fascinating. Having worked in education for 16 years it’s given me a new angle and so much food for thought!  I want to know more! I think this could really have a huge impact on how we support families.   Year Head

I now see so many of my patients through a different lens. Before this training I used to feel anxious and sometimes intimidated by the highly escalated presentations. Now I know how to respond helpfully and can see a way forward to help them that makes complete sense. This makes all the difference.  General Practitioner

After the Level 1:  After the Level 1 you may feel sufficiently confident that relationships are in a good place around you at work (and at home) and may feel you have progressed your understanding of relationship health practice so feel ready to stop.  Or you might want to stay involved via our regular monthly membership or be interested in a Link role (see below).

Or you may want to learn more, or know you need to build in more support for yourself. In which case you could apply to progress to the advanced programme which explores the theory to practice of the I Matter Framework in more depth.  Level 2 is intended for those looking to strengthen confidence for working with typical relationships and parenting situations (another 4 months) and Level 3 for those supporting children and families with additional needs where a longer term focus is needed (another 12 months).

The important question to ask yourself is are relationships around you and around the children and adults you support yet in a healthy place?  Are you feeling confident in the role you are playing in your community and in your team to help children and adults progress with their challenges using a relationship health approach?   As a professional, the challenging truth is that this work most often involves work with adults, not with children.   So if this is your situation and you can see the problem but it feels a little overwhelming and with more to learn - then supporting yourself with this learning is important.   Some of this will involve being willing to take a hard look at some everyday practices to see what needs to shift.

If you are interested in becoming certified as a Link professional to help those with readiness to learn you can start with that role after Level 1.  If you are interested in learning how to offer facilitation of small group discussion (Level 4) or individualised coaching for parents-carers or other professionals taking part in the training as part of a whole setting approach (Level 5) then you will also need to have enough direct experience of supporting children including those with additional needs.  Please contact us to discuss your interest.
We can complete a personalised assessment and recommendations step, and customise a training plan depending on your current role and experience.

Organisations:  Would you like to tackle this important issue in a systematic and strategic way?  Are you ready to make a longer term commitment and with a focus on a whole setting approach?    If you are in an organisation with 3 senior staff who have completed Level 1 and an active membership, you can progress the organisational certification process.

Certification takes your organisation through a step by step process of embedding relationship health practice creating the conditions to host practitioners who are taking this practice forward.  There are several elements: staff training, creating pathways to support parents-carers, in house relationship health skills curriculum development, and supporting the development of the Community Wheel via a mini hub.
