Start a Local I Matter Training Programme

Would you like to offer I Matter Training in your school or service or community?

You and your senior  leadership team will need to start by defining what you want to achieve. You’ll need to select staff to become Lead Professionals and you will need to support your Lead Professionals to obtain the training and then to teach at least three courses a year. Before you get started, ask yourself the following questions:

Why I Matter Training?

Is I Matter Training right for you? First, it is important to know what the program is and what it is not.

I Matter Training is…

  • A psychoeducational program looking at the foundations for healthy adult-child relationships
  • About communities working together and having important conversations
  • For professionals with a wide range of disciplines and for parents with a wide range of everyday and more complex challenges
  • A carefully structured approach

I Matter Training is not

  • A crisis intervention program
  • Seeking to replace other good practice
  • psychotherapy, or counselling

Getting Started

Setting Goals

Studies on I Matter Training show it can be used to support a variety of outcomes. You should define your own measurable objectives, which may include:

  • Training a certain number of people in your school or service or community/in specific audience groups
  • Helping your school, service or community to  develop a more effective strategy for supporting parents and carers
  • Strengthening relations between different organisations and agencies in your community

Planning

Putting on an I Matter Training course involves much more than just the delivery . Program planning involves:

  • Strategic planning (e.g., creating a sustainable business plan, forming community partnerships)
  • Grant writing and fundraising
  • Marketing and outreach
  • Course registration (free or fee-based)
  • Event planning (e.g., audio-visual, catering, logistics, materials)
  • Evaluation and analysis of program’s success

Budgeting

How much can you invest in I Matter Training?

Your costs will depend on a number of factors, but you should build your budget to include the following pieces:

  • Lead Professional training (£1500-for 2 staff  + travel and accomodation during the training, cost of time out of the office)
  • School or service licence
  • Online course fees for participants (Mixed funding)
  • Program administration and planning
  • Marketing and outreach (e.g., press outreach, web development, printing posters and flyers, social media activities)
