I Matter Training and Relationship Health
For Schools
Invest in your team!
The research evidence on improving wellbeing for adults and children clearly tells us that the way forward requires us to focus on improving skills for relationship health. For schools, this means helping build skills in young people, through experiencing stronger adult-child AND adult-adult relationships.
However building the understanding and skills for relationship health has NOT EVER been the focus of our education or health policies. It has not been a priority focus of the way that professionals have been trained in health or in education. Consequently though, many will have some sense that this is an important issue, few have had any specific training in this issue.
Very few will have accessed active training in the dynamic hierarchical developmental foundations of these skills, though an understanding of these principles is key to improving outcomes. Consequently when trying to address challenges in mental health and behaviour, important details are often missed.
Investing in I Matter informed relationship health training as a school gives your organisation an affordable way of
+ Investing in staff wellbeing
+ Building insight and skills of your staff team
+ Building insight and skills of young people
+ Working with organisations in your community to build skills of parents and carers
In working with schools, we advise that it is important to build an inhouse informed team focussed on relationship health

We see this as an ongoing learning procss and are interested in working with you to help support more joined up practice between health and education so you can make a difference n your community.
About Dr Cathy Betoin: Cathy is a practising clinical psychologist, an experienced teacher, and a parent. This training developed in response to seeing many individuals, families and professionals, who were struggling to find the way forward. The training started with families of children with complex needs - then we realised it was relevant to improving confidence in relationship health with all children, in all types of relationships and for those with caring responsibilities at all ages.

If you are in the Kendal area, there is a funded 'brief early intervention' programme that can be accessed by parents who have a Kendal GP. Families should request an appointment and ask about I Matter. We are currently exploring the development of a joined up learning pathway for those with longer term learning needs in partnership with interested schools.
