Advanced 1:  I Matter Study Supporter Training

The I Matter Project provides training to equip individuals to provide a Lead Professional role and study support for Dr Cathy Betoin's online courses. Study Supporter training is currently offered only in English

For English speakers we offer a one-two year study supporter Diploma Program designed for Intermediate A and B graduates who are interested in becoming thoroughly equipped to facilitate our courses for parents, teachers and/or helping professionals. The program includes working alongside one of our Lead Practitioners to run at least 3 Foundation course programs and participation in monthly Saturday master classes with Dr. Betoin, and monthly consults with one of our team.  Tuition for this program is £1000 per year

Prerequisites

Completion of both Foundation and Intermediate A and B are required to apply for Lead Professional study supporter training. The foundation course introduces the framework, and the intermediate introduces developmental thinking.   The advanced Lead Professional study program involves applying the theory and thinking to a range of complex and specific challenges

Studies are conducted online with supportive face to face or online workshops

Equipping and support is provided primarily online.  Participants require access to a computer and high-speed internet in order to participate. No special software is needed. Personal consults with the our team are typically done via telephone or Skype. Online support sessions are delivered through our videoconferencing system. Although the technical competencies to participate in this program are minimal, students are expected to take responsibility for any technical learning that is required.

Given the virtual nature of our program, we have an annual conference in the Lake District, Cumbria to provide the opportunity for students of our training programs to meet face to face. Seminars and workshops are provided by Dr. Betoin and other members of the I Matter team. Facilitator training students and graduates are encouraged to participate in this annual conference if it is at all feasible for them to do so.

I Matter Course Lead Professional Study Supprter Diploma Program overview

Dr. Betoin has created a comprehensive and highly practical program through which to teach an adult-child welllbeing approach to parents, teachers and helping professionals. These courses have been enhanced with study guides and supplementary resources and can be taken by individuals or groups online through our online course tools. Groups are offered added support on location when possible, or via the internet when onsite support is not feasible.

Lead Pofessional study supporters are trained to facilitate and support these courses to their own audiences and also potentially to assist with our-scheduled online continuing education courses.

The two-year program involves gaining of expereinced in running groups for both professionals and for parents and includes master classes with Dr. Betoin a, supported case study, forum discussion, reflective journaling and regularly scheduled consults with our team.

Nature of Equipping

Our Lead Profesiosnal training program does NOT equip anyone in how to teach or how to lead groups. We expect that individuals come to our program with the requisite skills and already possess the required credentials to command the respect of their intended audience. Our role is to equip and support individuals in the teaching of an I Matter approach.

Basic Components of Training

We aim  to help each program of study to be individualized according to the candidate’s interests, background and objectives. The basic components involve mastery of the theory, personal integration of the theory, and practice in understanding children and adults who are presenting in various ways.

Mastering the theory typically involves review of real life case examples from everyday life and practice and further study of the resources available via our program The personal integration component of the program involves participation in our B program, which in turn are responded to by our team. The content of the B course includes personal reflections and provides a place to process challenges faced in the living out of this approach. This is facilitated through master class sessions with Dr. Betoin and the Team.

Requirements

Lead Professional study supporters are also expected to arrange and run groups as part of the certification process while receiving support and supervision from the I Matter team.

Time Involvement

We assume that people already have full lives with their family and work commitments; however the ability to carve out several hours per week is a necessary prerequisite for involvement in this program. The more time students are able to devote to their studies, the richer the experience.
