A practical approach to relationship health for real life

I Matter® is a practical learning approach that helps people make sense of relationships, behaviour, stress, and communication — at home, at work, and in everyday life.

It is designed for adults who are supporting children, families, colleagues, or themselves in times of pressure.

Why this matters

When life feels difficult, most of the strain shows up in relationships.

People often experience:

  • stress and overwhelm
  • conflict and misunderstandings
  • anxiety and emotional pressure
  • breakdowns in communication
  • burnout at home or at work

These are often treated as separate problems.

The I Matter approach starts somewhere different:

It focuses on relationship health as the foundation underneath everything else.

A different kind of learning

I Matter is not:

  • a parenting method
  • a therapy model
  • a behaviour programme
  • or a quick fix toolkit

Instead, it is core relationship health education.

It helps you understand:

  • what is happening in yourself
  • what is happening in others
  • and what becomes possible when pressure increases

What you will learn

The I Matter® Framework, Five Steps to Success, and supporting ideas help you:

  • Make sense of challenging situations instead of reacting automatically
  • Respond more calmly and clearly under pressure
  • Improve communication and connection in relationships
  • Support children, young people, and adults with greater confidence
  • Understand your own responses and choices more clearly

This learning builds understanding that you can use immediately in everyday life.

Who this is for

I Matter is designed for people in real and often overlapping roles:

  • Parents and carers supporting children or family life
  • Professionals working with children, young people, or adults
  • People managing demanding roles across work and home life
  • Leaders and organisations wanting a more relational approach to wellbeing

Everyone starts from the same foundation.

From there, you can take the learning as far as is useful for your role and situation.

How the learning works

The I Matter journey is structured but flexible.

You can move through it in three stages:

1. Learn I Matter

Build understanding of relationship health and how it shapes behaviour, stress, and communication.

2. Living I Matter

Begin applying ideas in real situations at home, at work, and in relationships.

3. Supporting Others

Develop confidence and skill over time so you can support others more effectively.

This is not a one-off course — it is a way of building capacity over time.

The Five Steps to Success

The I Matter approach brings together five simple guiding steps:

  • Acknowledge the fog
  • Become informed
  • Take care of you
  • Develop routines
  • Fine-tune skills and care

These steps help you make sense of difficult moments without losing clarity or connection.

The Community Wheel

Alongside the framework, the I Matter Community Wheel helps bridge understanding into everyday practice.

It supports reflection, shared language, and practical application across home, work, and community settings.

How people use I Matter

People use this approach in different ways depending on their needs:

  • Self-paced online learning
  • Group or supported learning
  • Coaching or applied practice
  • Organisational training and development

The core ideas stay the same — the level of depth changes.
