WHY TAKE PART IN I MATTER RELATIONSHIP HEALTH TRAINING?
LETS THINK ABOUT THIS
I Matter Training offers a chance to learn some new insights and skills AND make a difference to at least one child

PARENTS-CARERS -
When you get up in the morning what is your key role in relation to your children?   Are you there to make sure that they have smart clothes, or get good grades, or are polite and friendly?   Or is there something else= something a bit deeper?

TEACHERS:
When you go to work as a teacher what is your key professional goal?  Are you there to teach English, or Maths or Art?  Are you there to help children get good grades?    Or is there something else - something a bit deeper?

GP'S: When you to to work as a GP what is your key professional goal?   Are you there to treat patients?  Or prescribe medication?  Or to provide expert consultation?   Or is there something else - something a bit deeper?

SOCIAL WORKERS:  When you go to work as a social worker, what is your key professional goal?   Are you there to safeguard children?  Or support with benefits entitlements?   Or protect the vulnerable?    Or is there something else - something a bit deeper?

TEACHING ASSISTANTS:   When you go to work as a teaching assistant, what is your key professional goal?  Are you there to ensure children complete work set by the teacher?  Or to ensure that they don't disrupt lessons?  Or that they fulfil potential?   Or is there something else?

PSYCHOLOGISTS:   When you go to work as a psychologist, what is your key professional goal?   Are you there to assess children?  Or develop intervention plans?   Or to deliver an expert service?   Or is there something else - something a bit deeper?

POLICE OFFICERS:  When you to go to work as a police offer, what is your key professional goal?   Are you there to protect the public?  Or to arrest criminals?   Or to enforce the law?   Or is there something else - something a bit deeper?

HEADS AND DIRECTORS OF CHILDREN'S SERVICE: When you go to work as a leader in a school or service for children and families what is your key professional goal?   Are you there to to administer well?   Or to motivate your staff?   Or to get data that looks good on someone's spreadsheets?   Or is there something else - something a bit deeper?

So what exactly is the something else when it comes to children's well-being?
What is it that is currently missing?  Or not clear?
What if we could agree at a deeper level what we were all there collectively to do together?
What if we could agree on a way of thinking - or a Framework - that helped everyone  to find a useful role to play in a collective effort?

The I Matter Framework and the Community Wheel take the load out of this process of deciding what the priorities are for improving outcomes for children and families - especially the most vulnerable - through providing individuals and teams a carefully structured synthesis of what the research evidence on children's mental health is really saying.  Then I Matter Training helps parents and professionals and young people to agree on some shared starting points

The I Matter Framework is taught in a manner that makes sense and offers a proven stepped process - set out in the I Matter Awards and these are designed to enables different people and organisations with different roles to work together more effectively over a longer view to improve children's mental health and wellbeing.  These steps have been carefully developed by Dr Cathy Betoin based on years of experience in teaching, clinical psychology and CAMHS servies, and in community focused practice.  The steps are carefully designed to ensure that adults better understand the needs of children and better understand the subsequent steps they must take in everyday scenarios to support collective effective actions and better results.
