The I Matter Framework supports building of insights and skills for relationship health in professional roles and in everyday life.
Professional training is offered centrally whereas training for everyday life is offered via locality hubs.
This page is here to help you think about starting points and about how much study support will likely help

👉 Start by choosing where you want to use this learning most right now.

Two clear starting points

🔹 For Work / Professional  (express interest here)

Choose this route if you want to explore relationship health:

  • in a professional role (health, education, community, voluntary sector)

  • with children, young people, families or adults

  • to inform practice, decision-making, supervision or service design

  • as part of CPD, organisational learning or funded work

You may also be a parent or carer — but your primary intention here is professional use.

🔹 For Home / Personal (via locality hubs)

(Adult–Adult • Parenting • Family Life)

Choose this route if you want to explore relationship health:

  • in your own life and relationships

  • in adult–adult relationships

  • in parenting, caring or family life

  • to build confidence, understanding and practical skills at home

You do not need to be in crisis — and you do not need to be a professional.

Not sure yet?

That’s very common.   The good news is that the programme is relevant to home and school and Phase 1 is open to anyone

Many people:

  • begin For Work and discover the personal benefits alongside professional insight

  • start For Home and later bring the learning into their work

If you’re unsure, start with the option that best reflects what is currently possible and where you want to apply the learning first - then adapt later.

When advising on a study support for Phase 2-3 I Matter learning for linked parents and carers seeking training via locality hubs,  we have to look at the nature of the initial needs and the key desired results.  The key desired result is re-establishment of relationship health between adult-adult and adult-child to create conditions to manage challenges with more confidence.   To determine fit, we look at a range of information (see below):

Readiness for Change is a Key Idea in an I Matter Learning Journey

Readiness for change is an issue in professional and organisation as well as in personal learning roles

Not ready for change Ready for change

Focussed on blaming and criticising others
Willing to take responsibility for the part you are, or have been, playing
Sure of what others need to do Focussed on learning how self has to change for relationship health to grow
Unwilling to commit to the effort of changing Willing to commit the time and effort to changing

Ready to accept the status quo Determined that the status quo needs to move on and support more collaboration

In a presentation like this there is often low readiness to do the work needed for change.

In scope for self-funded services or a localy fundedl project via a community hub via a link school. May sometimes be in scope for funded early intervention services, or partial funding.  May also be suitable for self-funding if there i recommendation/support from a
Link or Lead who knows child and family. Reviewed on case by case.

Not usually in scope for funded services in a hub and not usually suitable for self-funded services.  Reviewed on case by case basis subject to capacity of local services.

Not usually in scope for funded or self-funded services via a local hub due to longer term learning needs.  However with a strong team of I Matter informed professionals local case by case decisions are possible.

A key strength of this approach is the degree to which our decision making is informed by the i Matter Framework, which is itself a description of the conclusions of decades of research evidence.  This provides everyone with a practical and transparent way of discussing issues and agreeing on the priorities.   It means all parties have a clear direction of travel and can clearly identify when the desired improvements have appeared.

The programme is designed for those who are ready to focus on working for results and is provided on a use it or lose it basis.  We review every 2 months.   This is particularly important for anyone on a funded programme and especially important for anyone offered additional coaching.
