Recognition of supported professional learning

The I Matter Relationship Health Learning Journey offers structured personal and professional development in relationship health, development, stress, behaviour and the adult role.

Professionals can undertake the learning in two ways:

  • Self-guided learning, leading to a Certificate of Completion; and described as having 'Completed Level 2 I Matter Certificate'

  • Supported learning and consolidation,

    Supported learning can lead to recognition as a Relationship Health and I Matter Informed Professional.

Recognition is available at Level 2 Foundations and Level 3 Deep Dive.

Confidentiality and professional responsibility

Study-support and consolidation sessions are educational learning spaces. They are not clinical supervision, case-management meetings or forums for making decisions about individual children, families or service users.

Identifiable information must not be included in group discussions or submitted reflective work.

Participants remain responsible for:

  • working within the scope of their existing role;

  • following their employer’s policies and procedures;

  • using their normal professional supervision;

  • following relevant safeguarding and information-governance requirements;

  • seeking appropriate advice when a situation lies beyond their competence.

The community offers structured opportunities to:

  • consolidate understanding of I Matter concepts;

  • participate in formulation-focused learning discussions;

  • complete relevant reflective requirements;

  • consider how the learning connects with existing professional roles;

  • learn alongside professionals working in different settings.

The Professional Learning Community is an educational space. It does not provide clinical supervision, case consultation or advice about identifiable individuals or families.

Following recognition, professionals may choose to remain members for continuing learning, reflection and connection. Ongoing membership is optional and is not required to retain a dated record of recognition.

Maintaining and describing recognition

Certificates will show:

  • the course or recognition achieved;

  • the level completed;

  • the date of completion or recognition.

Recognition records the learning and consolidation completed at that time. There is no annual licence or compulsory membership fee attached to Relationship Health and I Matter Informed status.

Professionals are encouraged to refresh their learning periodically and remain responsible for keeping their knowledge and professional practice current.

The recognition should be described accurately. For example:

Level 2 Relationship Health and I Matter Informed — Fundamentals, recognised 2026

or:

Level 3 Relationship Health and I Matter Informed — Deep Dive, recognised 2026

Recognition should not be shortened to “I Matter Practitioner,” “I Matter certified practitioner,” “I Matter trainer” or any other title suggesting permission to deliver the framework.

Further learning

Professionals who complete Level 2 may choose to progress to Level 3 Deep Dive.

Professionals who complete Level 3 may continue participating in the Professional Learning Community to deepen their understanding and explore further applications of the framework.

Completion of Deep Dive does not automatically confer permission to teach the framework, provide study support or deliver I Matter services.

Workshops and study-support roles

From time to time, I Matter Training may separately select suitably experienced professionals to deliver a defined workshop or professional study-support group on behalf of I Matter Training.

Such roles require:

  • completion of relevant advanced I Matter learning;

  • suitable existing professional knowledge and experience;

  • role-specific preparation;

  • observed or supported practice;

  • appropriate insurance and safeguarding arrangements;

  • a current written appointment or associate agreement.

Appointment to an I Matter Training delivery role is separate from Relationship Health and I Matter Informed recognition.

Any such appointment:

  • applies only to work commissioned and managed by I Matter Training;

  • is limited to the agreed role, materials and period;

  • does not provide an independent or transferable licence;

  • ends when the appointment or associate agreement ends.

Becoming Relationship Health and I Matter Informed may make a professional eligible to be considered for a future role, but it does not guarantee selection or appointment.

Our guiding principle

Relationship Health and I Matter Informed recognition acknowledges supported learning, reflection and understanding. It does not certify or license independent delivery of the I Matter Framework.
