I MATTER RELATIONSHIP HEALTH COACHING provides a combination of psychoeducation, discussion and guidance recognising the interconnections between multiple relationships that we are each a part of currently and historically, and focussed on strengthening the understanding and skills for relationship health.
AGREED PRIORITIES We will identify some priority relationship health issues that you wish to work on and together we will work out how to take the steps needed to get the positive relationship health results you want for yourselves and family members.
VALUES: In an Matter approach to improving relationship health we start with our values and the premise that every relationship benefits from the attitudes of personal responsbility and willingness to grow, commitment to partnership and support for the process of healthy child and adult development. We prioritise the attitudes and skills of mutual respect, clear and effective communication and understanding of the caring roles we each play in wellbeing for ourselves and others.
INSIGHT AND ACTIONS: The process of improving relationship health takes time and requires both the development of personal and shared understanding AND commitment to positive actions. In our work together there will be concepts to learn and actions to take between sessions. We use the ASPIRE process to support focus on learning together.
PRESENT FOCUSSED: We all have a history which influences our present behaviour. However our past does not define the present. Understanding the past is useful if it helps us make sense of ourselves and others, or guides us to actions that may still be needed to support closure on difficult events so we can move on in the present.
GROWTH FOCUSSED: Relationship health supports a process of personal growth through the varied life challenges that we are each offered. No relationship should be a straitjacket. Sometimes we need to make important shifts, but this is best done through a commitment to the time needed to support a positive adjustment into a new form of relating for ourselves and others.
ETHICS AND CODE OF CONDUCT I am a fully qualified HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist and work within the HCPC ethical frameworks for good practice . https://www.hcpc-uk.org/standards. My aim is to be a trusted third party and to consider each individual’s expression of concerns and needs so as to support improved mutual understanding. I will at times communicate with you both individually and together to support that process.
CONFIDENTIALITY: I Matter coaching offers supportive psychoeducation. Notes kept are minimal. However your information is confidential and kept in a secure and protected format. I also undertake regular supervision and have an obligation to share information if I believe that the welfare of yourself or others is at serious risk.
SESSIONS AND COMMUNICATION: We will agree a plan of work and an intensity of support in advance for a mutually defined period of 4 months at a time. Contact is usually virtually online or by phone or through secure messaging, though an occasional face to face meeting can be arranged in a mutually acceptable location. I am able to meet with family members as appropriate, however my priority focus is on working with the adults to support confidence in their own roles.
PHASES: I Matter Coaching progresses in phases using the Five Steps to Success. In particular phase 1 is about of getting to know you, understanding the challenges and agreeing priorities and developing a way of working that is a fit for you. In Phase 2 there is some study to complete and some work on initial actions. Phase 3-4 involves a process of developing self-care, team work and supportive routines that help you tackle challenges and Phase 5 is a phase of fine-tuning.
ONGOING REVIEW: The consideration of issues of relationship health can touch on issues that can be experienced as sensitive. It is important to progress coaching only at a pace that feels manageable. It is important for you to consider your support options around the work we do together and to let me know if any adjustments are needed.
FEES: Payment is in advance by direct debit for the agreed package and period, and payment information will be provided. Fees will include the cost of the online learning Fundamentals account and optional Deep Dive plus the cost of study support and personalised coaching. Sessions will be charged if they are cancelled at the last minute. Please aim to give 48 hours notice to change a session.
ENDING COACHING: Where possible it is important that we end our work together through a mutually agreed planned process. A good ending experience is an important part of relationship health.
I understand and agree to the terms and conditions of the above contract.
