Take Action - Pathways and Journeys
So you have a child whose development or mental health is a concern and you are wondering what would help or where to start? Or you are just interested in learning more about these issues to inform or help yourself or for continuing professional education purposes. You have looked around the web and found so much information about evidence-based approaches and other approaches. You may feel a little confused and bewildered about where to start?
So how do all these issues and ideas fit together? This is where we can help. What if lots of roads led to some very similar conclusions? Here is the good news from the 'I Matter Project'. We may be facing lots of apparently different challenges, but after years of researching this complexity, I can reassure you that as adults there is some core knowledge you need, and then there is a common and shared direction of travel if you really want to make a positive difference. In the I Matter Project we use the idea of pathways or journeys to guide you in your learning but we know that to make confident long-term progress iyou must first start to understand how some core ideas fit together. This is the core content found in the Step 1 Getting Started Course which sets out the I Matter Framework.
Our courses can be taken as self-help if you are simply wanting to learn more but if you are facing real challenges we recommend that you take them with the support of a professional in your local community who has trained with us and has relevant expertise.
Understanding and Addressing Behaviour Problems Children and adults of all ages can display challenging behaviour - but a deeper understanding can help professionals and parents be more effective
Understanding and addressing Autism, ADHD and Attachment Living or working with a child who has a diagnosis of autism, ADHD or displaying autistic traits can be very challenging. The big picture really matters.

Childhood Trauma If you are living with a child who has experienced relationship based difficulties you are living with a child who has experienced trauma. Understanding the impact of trauma is key to moving forward.
Helping the Anxious Child Anxiety is a common feature of many developmental and mental health challenges for typical and complex children. So what is going on and how do we help make a difference?
Preparation for Parenting. Investing in your own knowledge, understanding and skills is one of the best ways of helping parenting become more rewarding. If your child has any complex needs this preparation is vital.

Developmental Progress Tracking
Are we tracking the right things when it comes to evidence based practice in children presenting with complex challenges? We have resources that are designed to address a significant gap
The I Matter Project offers a way of organising the mountain of confusing material that can be found in diagnostic manuals, on the web and in different therapeutic approaches, so it becomes much much easier to understand and so that you can become clearer about what in I Matter we describe as your Direction of Travel. We actively encourage you to pursue other training too. It also aims to offer a way for schools and services to make education and support more easily available in a cost-effective fashion.
What is offered in I Matter is not fundamentally new. It is also not rocket science. But it can be challenging. I Matter offers a psycho-educational approach that builds on lots of excellent research and training and aims to draw these ideas into a framework for professionals and parents.
However building a deeper understanding for yourself is going to require some commitment from you. This is not a quick fix approach. Consequently, all of our pathways or journeys invite you to start by taking the I Matter Step 1 Getting Started Course which involves a workshop and a period of online learning, where possible supported by a study group. If you are in a desperate rush to get started and very time pressed, you might choose the very short Essentials Course. However, if you want to go deeper and your child is more complex, most pathways will also include the Step 2 Taking Stock course. Once you have the foundations in place and a local network of support, we offer Step 3 online Confidence Groups as a way of accessing sustained support and accountability to help you make and sustain the changes that are often needed.
