Professionals and parents pursue the same structured learning pathway as this enables the team around the child to gain a shared language for making sense of challenges and priorities.  Start dates for each step are available on a 6 week rolling programme.   We are working with partners to build capacity to provide support for the online learning.

First Steps Stage

First Steps Course

The First Steps course is an optional gentle online introduction to the background and initial content of an I Matter Approach.   There is a short amount of online study and then 2 thought provoking email courses delivered via 3 min clips on a daily basis over a period of 1 week with option to extend to a further 2 weeks.  The first steps course is NOT required for the Foundation A.

I Matter Q registration

An Informal I Matter Q can be completed as an initial step on an I Matter Journey as a self-help process

The detailed I Matter Q provides an important foundation for a longer term i Matter Journey particularly for parents as it will provide very specific information about priorities   The I Matter Q IS a requirement for those who are completing the Foundation A

Consultations

Consultations are optional extras but can be particularly important for parents and carers.   Dependent on your initial registration information we may sometimes recommend an initial First Steps Course - or sometimes access to other local resources or services.    We offer a range of consultations

+ 90min exploration of your I Matter Q

+ an in depth home-school joined up assessment and recommendations process

+ a series of 1:1 support sessions

About the Instructor:

Dr Cathy Betoin is a practising clinical psychologist, an experienced teacher and a parent.   She has worked in schools, child psychology and CAMHS settings for over 30 years with children and families who are managing a wide variety of challenging and complex behaviours. Cathy has a passion for ensuring that parents, carers and professionals who work directly with children have access to the knowledge and understanding that can help them make a difference.  The Adult-Child Well-Being 'I Matter' Framework is a carefully organised well-evidenced set of ideas organised into a practical foundation for decision making.  It draws attention to the fact that to help a challenging or complex child we have to put adult-child relationships, adult-child stress and child development back on the map.
